At Moon Roast, sustainability is woven into the fabric of everything we do. From ethically sourcing our beans to investing in the most eco-friendly packaging, we’re committed to reducing our impact on the environment and finding meaningful ways to give back to the planet.
One part of the coffee journey that often gets overlooked is the humble coffee sack.
Every year, the UK imports around 3 million sacks of coffee. Shockingly, over a third of these end up in landfill. That’s a staggering amount of waste - something we wanted to change.
That’s why we’re proud to have partnered with Sisalwool™, an innovative company giving our used hessian sacks a new lease of life by transforming them into 100% recycled natural fibre insulation.
The process: From sack to sustainable insulation
Here’s how our sacks are repurposed:

Collection – Our used coffee sacks are collected directly from the roastery.

Fibre extraction – Made from jute, sisal, or other plant fibres, the sacks go through a careful recycling process to extract usable fibres.

Insulation production – These natural fibres are then transformed into high-performance insulation by Sisalwool™, ready for use in eco-conscious building projects.
