Our First Kenyan Release of 2025
Kamwangi AA marks the beginning of an exciting series: three exceptional Kenyan coffees from this year’s harvest, released one at a time. Each coffee will highlight a different facet of Kenya’s renowned coffee heritage. Kamwangi sets the tone with its juicy acidity, layered sweetness, and vibrant fruit character, a true showcase of what makes Kenyan coffee world class.
Kamwangi is one of three factories operated by the New Ngariama Farmers Cooperative Society, located in the fertile foothills of Mount Kenya. This region is renowned for its rich volcanic soils, high altitudes, and ideal climate, all of which contribute to the exceptional quality of its coffees.
The cooperative comprises around 1,500 smallholder farmers, each cultivating coffee on small plots averaging 0.5 hectares. Farmers deliver ripe cherries to the Kamwangi washing station, where meticulous processing ensures clarity and consistency in the cup.
Processing Details:
- Sorting: Hand-sorted to remove underripe cherries.
- Fermentation: 24–36 hours under shade to develop complexity.
- Washing: Thoroughly washed and graded by density.
- Drying: Sun-dried on raised African beds for 12-20 days, with careful covering during midday heat and overnight to protect from moisture.
This attention to detail results in a coffee that is both bright and structured, showcasing the hallmark characteristics of Kenyan terroir.
