Summer Brews Q&A: How to Make the Perfect Specialty Iced Americano

With summer in full swing, what better way to keep cool than with a perfectly brewed iced coffee? At Moon Roast, we love exploring new ways to enjoy coffee, and our very own Training & Advocacy Manager, Kels has shared her specialty recipe that takes iced americano to the next level. Smooth, refreshing, and perfect for sunny days, it’s also simple to make at home.

Here’s a breakdown of how to create it.

Q: What makes Moon Roast’s iced coffee recipe different from the rest?

A: There’s iced coffee and then there’s Kels advanced specialty iced americano. Using espresso and a filtering technique, this recipe gives you a clean, refreshing drink with a smooth finish that’s perfect for summer days.

Q: What do I need to make it at home?

A: Just a few simple ingredients and tools:

  • Cold water
  • Ice
  • A V60 dripper + filters
  • 2 x double shots of espresso

Q: How do I make it?

A: Follow these easy steps:

  1. Brew 2 x double shots of espresso.
  2. Fill a glass with cold water and ice.  Position V60 on top of glass.
  3. Pour the espresso through the V60 filter for 30–60 seconds. Note not all the espresso will filter through.
  4. The process filters out oils and tannins, leaving you with a crisp, smooth iced black americano that’s a cut above your standard brew.

Q: Why use a V60 for iced coffee?

A: The V60 works by catching oils that can give iced coffee a bitter edge. The result is a beautifully clean and balanced flavour making it perfect for enjoying coffee cold without losing its character.

Q: Can I experiment with it?

A: Absolutely! Try different beans from the Moon Roast range to explore how flavours shine when chilled. Our lighter roasts are especially good at bringing out fruity, more complex notes in iced coffee.

Q: Where can I get the beans?

A: Explore our Moon Roast coffee collection and pick up your favourite roast for summer brewing.
