Luis Anibal Calderón first purchased the land at Finca Villa Betulia in 2005. He began planting specialty coffee varieties at his farm, when he planted 5,000 Geisha trees on around 5% of his farm. Ten years later, it was apparent that returns from cultivating Geisha were worth the extra effort.
Calderón decided to dedicate his entire farm to cultivating delicate and rare specialty varieties. Today, Villa Betulia is planted with a wide range of specialty varieties including Red, Pink and Yellow Geisha, Tabi, Java, Sidra, Striped Bourbon, Maragogype, Pacamara, Marageisha and several varieties of dwarf Geisha.
This micro lot is 100% Striped Bourbon- a wild and naturally occurring mutation of the bourbon varietal, that was first discovered in Acevedo. This coffee is characterised by unique and beautiful light coloured stripes on the skin of the cherry.
Hand-picked in order to select only the ripest cherries and later fermented for 40 hours in an anaerobic environment, the cherries are then pulped, gently washed, and sundried until ideal moisture content is achieved.
